Elegy and Episodes was composed in 2013 for Cory Band tenor horn player Ailsa Russell, and premiered by her at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. A melancholic elegy section featuring lyrical solo lines and a rippling accompaniment is contrasted with a light-hearted but high-energy rondo which requires excellent dexterity, rhythm and range from the soloist.
