In 1997, all of the students who were undertaking
the BA Band Studies Course at
Accrington & Rossendale College, were
commissed by the Slaidburn Band to compose
a suitable piece of music to mark its
centenary in 1998.
As a result, Beverley Ann Stoll wrote the
overture as a tribute to both William
Rimmer and Joseph Hodgson. The overture
briefly features the musical themes of
the March “Slaidburn” and the unaffected
poignant harmonies of the hymn tune
“Burn Fell”.
