Wareham, A

Biography

Andy Wareham (b. 1994) is an up-and-coming young composer hailing from Southampton, England. His musical journey began at the age of six under the tuition of Lesley Milam and, ever since then, he has aspired to become an accomplished composer of music. Now based in South Wales after completing a BMus (Hons) at Cardiff University, he has become a keen academic and conductor within the Welsh brass band movement.
Andy has written a wide variety of music and has won a number of awards for his compositions, including the 'Vivendi Composition Award' and 'Best Student Composition' at the 2016 University Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
In May 2017, Andy won the Cory Band’s prestigious composition competition with his piece “Tarot! Tortuous Tarot!”. Iwan Fox, chief editor of popular Brass Band website 4barsrest.com, described it as a ‘mini gob-stopper of darkly hued fears and anxieties based on the reading of the infamous occult cards’.
Andy is due to complete his final year of post-graduate study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and is the first student the college has ever accepted to study a specialist degree in MMus Brass Band Conducting (Hons) under Dr. Robert Childs.
